I have recently returned to a number of new blogger forums and opened some new social networking accounts and all the new profiles ask for a bio. Reading someone’s bio with a photo is a sure snap shot of the person behind the posts and if you have some like interests to connect further. The problem is how to write a bio for your social media profiles. I want to be witty, I want to show intelligence, expertise and a niche. I don’t want to define myself as “Hi, I am a working mum of twins” because really who cares? My days are not exceptionally different from every other family in the world. Twins are a lovely (twice the fun and all that stuff) and a discussion topic but so are every other type of family make up; two mums, two dads, single mums, surrogacy, adoption, IVF babies and infertility. I do list twin mum in my bio because I honestly love connecting with other multiple mums but that is not only what I write about.
Hence my difficulty in identifying a niche for my social media profile bio which is also an important role for any blogger. All the blogging courses say you need to identify with a niche for the benefit of SEO and linking with forums and discussion boards and social media within that niche. For instance if you know all about photography or horses it is easier for traffic to find you because your website is optimised for keywords in that niche. So if my first niche is “Multiple Births” and I think my second niche would be “Law of Attraction.”
Why Law of Attraction?
Well my story claims I created my twins after inadvertently asking the universe in my manifesting workshop. Yes it could be a fairy-tale (and it’s not my job to convince you) and yes I did study molecular biology at University so I am no dumb-dumb but it is a nice story. I also enjoy meditation, positive affirmations, personal development and heck I am a little spiritual too. I have met some awesome like-minded individuals on my path for self-development and sometimes I wonder if I was really asleep for the first 27 years of my life since I have only felt truly awake since learning meditation and studying the law of attraction in my life.
BUT I also love entrepreneurship. I have worked in the peripherals of technology and business start-up companies my first job out of university was a start-up biotechnology company focusing on the development of diagnostic and monitoring tools for performance animals using blood. This job embarked a career in commercialisation bringing an idea to market. I wish I would come up with the killer idea to make a million dollars but so far I am still clocking a weekly wage for my employer. It is only recently that I have given myself the title of Entrepreneur after someone reminded me of the definition as “enterprising individual who builds capital through risk and/or initiative.” I am a risk taker but I am an intelligent risk taker. I believe I am confident to assess the opportunities against the risks before investing in any venture let it be property, a business or an online venture.
So my three keywords are:
- Multiple Birth
- Law of Attraction
- Entrepreneurship

Next step is creating a new Bio that sums up all three important parts of my life that communicates who I am, how I can help you, how did I get here, why can you trust me, what do we share in common and lets build a relationship together.
PLUS be witty, humorous and not a self-indulgent dribble highlighting all my exceptional characteristics of being a super working mum when in reality I am still dealing with my own financial woes, relationship issues and wiping dirty bums.
So how to write a bio for your social media profile that answered the above questions? Does anyone want to have a go and start me off? My goal this week to write some drafts for comment.
Hello Multiple Mum,
My wife is a wonderful multiple mum too. I truly admire the work you ladies do.
I’m looking forward to seeing some of the responses to this. I’m enjoying writing but struggling to define myself and my niche at the same time.
regards
Rod

Hi Rod, lovely to meet you on fb. I hope to have some responses prepared soon! But defining a niche can be tough when you wear so many hats and like so many thanks. LOL
A great post! I am going to check my bio today and see what “tuning up” can be done. Thanks for the info.
