It takes a special video to hold my attention for long. Today I watched the video to the speech This is Water: Some Thoughts, Delivered on a Significant Occasion, about Living a Compassionate Life is an essay by David Foster Wallace
You are right I had not heard of David Foster Wallace and his literary history but the new video “This Is Water,” a cinematic interpretation of Wallace’s bleak-yet-inspiring 2005 commencement address at Kenyon College has hit a mark everywhere.
I remember my first graduation (there were 3) and the countless graduations of many when I worked in the theater. I remember graduating from high school without knowing of the day in day out monotonous lives us adults bear. I suppose why I have embarked in a desire for entrepreneurship and what is freedom is because I hate the day in day out everyday.
Think and pay attention and you will love this speech too.
Some of my favourite parts.
You get to decide how you want to see Freedom. You can consciously decide what has meaning and that is real freedom.
How to think.
Don’t be the default setting.
Life before Death
